Care in Practice for CfE Higher by Janet Miller aims to support the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) Higher in Care and other care qualifications such as HNC and SVQ.
Many people, ranging from people who use services, carers and care workers to academics and SSSC staff members, contributed to the book which was launched on 27 November 2015.
The book aims to offer up-to-date thinking in relation to care practice in the 21st century, with an emphasis on the fundamental importance of the value base, personalisation, holistic thinking and an outcomes approach. SSSC Chief Executive Anna Fowlie wrote the foreword of the book and the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) also endorses it. Topics include:
- care: context and services
- values and principles
- an introduction to human development and behaviour
- psychological approaches and theories
- social influences and sociology
- positive care practice
- integration and course assessment.
