On Friday 15 January 2016, the SSSC received a Carer Positive award confirming the value and support it offers employees who are carers and also its commitment to the vital role carers play in our communities.
Carer Positive encourages employers to create a supportive working environment for carers, supporting them to manage the sometimes difficult job of balancing work with care responsibilities. The SSSC holds regular workshops for staff to help them become more carer aware, make it easy for staff to identify themselves as carers to colleagues and the organisation and recognises carers within HR policies and/or procedures.
Anna Fowlie, Chief Executive of the SSSC said:
‘Receiving the ‘engaged’ award is a great achievement for the organisation and for our staff. What’s more is that it reinforces our wider contribution to corporate, community and social responsibilities.’
The SSSC plays a wider role by working with NHS Education for Scotland (NES) through the Equal Partners in Care (EPiC) project to make sure health and social service workers become more aware of the estimated 760,000 carers in Scotland and to work in partnership with them.
