Kate Mackay is a lecturer at New College Lanarkshire, a Learning Facilitator at Northcare Scotland and is also one of our Dementia Ambassadors.
Here she tells us about recent fundraising activities for Alzheimer Scotland as part of Dementia Awareness Week.
‘New College Lanarkshire students are amazing when it comes to fundraising events.
‘My wonderful students raised over £1,000 from our purple party on 2 June and by Friday 10 June the total had grown to £1,739.45.
‘The students raised money by having a good old fashioned fundraiser; raffles, energetic zumba, guess the teddy’s name, baking and football cards.
‘They were very generously supported by local businesses which was amazing. Their generosity showed great community spirit while at the same time raising awareness and understanding about living with dementia.
‘Eighty of our students became dementia friends and several of them are now actively volunteering.
‘The girl in the photograph presenting the cheque to Barbara has four children under six years old and she volunteers her time with Alzheimer Scotland. Her mum raised over £300 on her own.
‘I am excited to see what we can do when we have more time!’
