Voluntary Sector Development Funding (VSDF) 2016/17

VSDF supports a range of voluntary sector organisations providing social services which are registered with the Care Inspectorate. Small and medium-sized organisations in particular are encouraged to apply.

The Scottish Government has confirmed that around £900k will be provided this year, in line with the funding made available in previous years. (Funding for future years will, as usual, be subject to Ministerial decision taking into account existing Government priorities.)

VSDF is available to contribute to the costs associated with meeting the required registration qualification criteria set by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and assists employers in achieving a qualified workforce. The level of contribution available is set out in the grant guidance notes. VSDF is to assist with the costs of Scottish Vocational Qualifications, management Awards and Professional Development Awards. VSDF will be granted for qualifications set out in the SSSC’s qualifications lists for registration, visit: www.sssc.uk.com/registration/what-qualifications-do-i-need/find-out-about-qualifications

The priority groups of workers which are eligible for support through VSDF funding this year, as agreed by the SSSC, Coalition of Care and Support Providers in Scotland (CCPS) and Scottish Government, are:

  • staff in housing support/care at home services – VSDF is open to supervisors and support workers, priority will be given to funding for supervisors
  • assessors – VSDF is available to support the costs of an assessor qualification for staff working within any of the eligible sectors described above.

The priority is to support as many staff as possible to meet the required registration qualification within the funding available and to achieve value for money. In the event that the total funding applied for exceeds the available funding, priority to supervisors will be applied in line with the priority set out above. There will also be an upper ceiling of £25,000 that any one organisation can receive.

Completed applications must be sent to: VSDF@gov.scot by 2 September 2016.
