Donna Adams, manager of Lullaby Lane Nursery in Westerton, Glasgow, was a finalist in the 2017 Apprentice of the Year Level 4 category at the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards.
Director of the nursery Pauline Scott tells us why she’s such a good example to others.
Since she joined us in 2015 Donna has really embraced our attachment led practice. She really lives and breathes our ethos and that’s what makes her stand out as a leader and she’s a role model for other staff.
Our practice focuses on early brain development and Donna really understands that and puts it into practice every day. It’s not just the children she works as she supports the families too.
Another of Donna’s strengths is her leadership and she’s about to start the leadership programme that we run at Lullaby Lane with our training company Tigers Ltd. Everyone can be a leader, it’s not about rank and position and she is fully committed to it.
Donna has shown her own personal drive so when we were opening a second nursery she was the right person to be the manager. She was promoted at the same time as going off on maternity leave so she’s a great example of how you can have a career and a family.
Now that Donna’s returned from maternity leave and started her managerial role she’s developing her team round her and their potential as deputes as well. When other staff and families talk about who’s making a difference her name crops up a lot as someone who lives and breathes our values.
She is the most calm and relaxed person and that’s what you need when you work with children. But the adults have to be nurtured and valued too if they are to nurture the children and she’s a great source of support for the wider team.
