A suite of resources for people with dementia and their carers has been updated to include new information they could benefit from.
People with dementia and carers were involved in developing the five resources. NHS Health Scotland produced them in partnership with Alzheimer Scotland.
All of the resources are available free of charge:
- Worried about your memory
- Understanding dementia: a guide for young carers
- Coping with dementia
- Younger people with dementia
- Living well with dementia.
Michael Tornow, NHS Health Scotland Senior Health Improvement Officer said:
‘These are aimed at benefitting people who have received a dementia diagnosis and are living with the condition, or who care for someone with dementia.
‘The new information that’s included reflects a raft of recent changes, such as the Carer’s Assessment, meaning each resource has been brought right up to date – including the three also available on YouTube.’
Nicole Nayar, Alzheimer Scotland Information Manager, said:
‘With over 90,000 people across Scotland currently living with dementia, Alzheimer Scotland knows only too well the impact a dementia diagnosis can have on people and their families.
‘The booklets are such a valuable resource, and we regularly hear about the real and meaningful difference they have made to the lives of people living with dementia and their families in Scotland.’
About the updates
Four of the five resources now include references to the new Carer’s Assessment
Three of these (Coping with dementia, Younger people with dementia, and Living well with dementia) are also available on YouTube and DVD and have new content added across all formats
This includes information on Scotland’s third national dementia strategy (2017-2020), references to new arrangements as part of health and social care integration and updates to various welfare benefits and support to reflect current entitlements
Coping with dementia and Younger people with dementia, reference the Scottish Government’s plans to extend Free Personal Care to everyone who requires it, including people under 65
Worried about your memory also has some minor updates.
