Staff from the joint SSSC and Care Inspectorate Finance Department hosted Christmas parties at three care homes for the elderly over the last two weeks.
Residents and staff at Balhousie Clement Park Care Home, Turriff House and Harestane Care Home in Dundee quickly got into the festive spirit when we arrived to spread festive cheer, play party games, eat lots of treats and most of all have fun.
We asked organiser, Nicole Mclardy what made them come up with the idea of hosting a Christmas party at services. Nicole said:
‘For the last couple of years we have donated to children’s and homeless charities. This year we wanted to give to people and also include team building. A colleague had watched a documentary which included Contact the Elderly charity for parties. We thought this was a lovely idea and I contacted them.
‘Unfortunately they had already organised their Christmas party for this year. They are looking to expand, so they’ve kept my details and will be in touch. After getting quite excited about the prospect of hosting a party we thought “Why don’t we organise a party ourselves?”. We contacted some managers of local care homes to find out if we could host a party for the residents. All managers got back straight away saying how they would love this!
‘There was lots of organising, a lot more than we expected but it was all worth it to see the residents faces. We’ve even been asked back next year!’
