At the SSSC we are pleased to be able to give young people the opportunity to kick-start their career by offering modern apprenticeship (MA) programmes.
MAs give people over 16 years old the chance to gain invaluable experience and a recognised qualification that will help them move up the career ladder, all while in paid employment.
Lorraine Gray, Chief Executive said:
‘As an employer in Dundee, it’s great to be able to offer young people the chance to start their career through our MA programme. Offering MAs gives you the chance to bring in new talent, new skills and energy to your organisation, while giving a young person the chance of employment and to earn while they learn.
‘We’ve an excellent group of people working with us just now as MAs and it’s great to see their confidence and skills grow. I’d encourage other organisations to think about offering MAs.’
Sophie Henderson who works in the SSSC/Care Inspectorate shared Finance Department as a MA said:
‘After school I went to university but unfortunately it wasn’t for me. I decided to go for a MA because I liked the idea of working and learning at the same time. I work in the transactions Team where I help deal with taking payments from workers paying their registration fee.
‘If you are thinking of starting an apprenticeship, I’d say definitely do it! You learn so much and gain lots of experience.’
Monika Tachasiuk who works in the SSSC HR Department as a MA said:
‘Modern apprenticeships offer both real-life working experience and a nationally recognised qualification – I think it’s the perfect combination for someone who’s just starting their career.
‘For those thinking about it I would say there is nothing to think about – just do it! I think it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. I’ve learnt a lot about working in HR and met wonderful, intelligence and passionate people while working towards my SVQ 3!’
Our MAs recently met with Bill Bowman MSP for North East Scotland and Debbie Donaldson from Skills Development Scotland to share their experience of working as a MA.
