Social workers in Scotland are being asked to contribute to a multi-country study on the benefits and challenges of using communication technology with people using services.
Researchers want social workers to complete a short survey looking at how they use email, text or instant messaging and social media alongside traditional face-to-face practice.
The study will examine how these every day tools are making their way into social work practice and explore what kinds of training and protocols might be needed to make sure this is well managed and becomes a potential strength.
The Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto is leading the study in collaboration with the University of Sussex, in the UK. The study is funded through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
