Audrey Pollock, SSSC Learning and Development Adviser tells us what she’s been doing to highlight this year’s Carer’s Awareness Week to SSSC staff.
‘As it’s Carer Awareness Week across the UK, I’ve taken this opportunity to introduce our staff to what a carer is and how to be carer aware by delivering carer awareness sessions. We looked at what our organisation currently does to support carers who work here and the resources we have that support the wider social service workforce.
‘The SSSC is an engaged carer positive organisation.
‘We have achieved the Carer Positive Award which is presented to employers in Scotland who have a working environment where carers are valued and supported. Carer Positive employers recognise the importance of retaining experienced members of staff, reducing absence, and cutting down on avoidable recruitment costs.’
Can your organisation be more carer aware?
Equal Partners in Care (EPiC) is the national framework for workforce learning and development related to unpaid carers.
It is made up of a set of core principles based on six outcomes for carers and young carers.
The framework also has associated learning modules, which we will refresh and update this summer. We will tell you when the updated learning resource is available; however you can still access the current resource.
If you are interested in supporting your organisation to become more carer aware, you can use the EPiC resource here.
