About the event

We are pleased to announce we are an official partner of the 2015 Scottish Learning Festival (SLF).

PrintOrganised by Education Scotland, the SLF is the country’s key education event welcoming thousands of educational professionals.  It takes place on Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 September at the SECC, Glasgow.

The theme of this year’s event focuses on raising achievement and attainment for all by maximising educational outcomes through:

  • local partnerships and collaboration – to share approaches that lead to better outcomes
  • self-evaluation – to ensure creative and innovative approaches to sustained improvement
  • work-related learning – to improve transitions into sustainable productive employment.

The SSSC will showcase a project to develop a virtual nursery in its seminar Using games based learning to support the development of the early year’s workforce.  We are working with the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) to produce an online nursery game which supports skills development of the early years workforce.  During the game, players are given the chance to risk assess, set up and experience working with children in a nursery setting. The seminar takes place on Wednesday 23 September.

Nina Roberts, SSSC Workforce Development and Planning Adviser who will present the seminar said:

“We are delighted to be a partner of SLF 2015 and have the opportunity to share our work with practitioners from across Scotland.  It is an ideal platform to meet workers from a wide range of settings.”

SLF 2015 is free for everyone to attend and provides access to:

  • inspirational keynotes from Angela Constance MSP, Professor Mel Ainscow, Dr Bill Maxwell and Chris van der Kuyl
  • over 100 professional development seminars where you can engage in activities and learn from practitioners and young people
  • lively debate focussing on How good is our school?, Closing the gap and Developing the young workforce
  • Scotland’s largest education exhibition with over 100 exhibitors showcasing educational resources
  • opportunities for discussion and professional networking with peers and colleagues from across Scotland.
